Michel Petrucciani

Michel Petrucciani va ser un pianista de jazz francès. Va néixer en Orange (França), el 28 de desembre de 1962 i va morir a Nova York el 6 de gener de 1999.

Afligit d'osteogénesis imperfecta, va superar la seva discapacitat fins a convertir-se en un artista de talent i renom internacional, entre els millors pianistes de jazz del món.

Biografia

El seu pare, Antoine Tony Petrucciani, guitarrista de jazz, va anar el seu professor de música (li va ensenyar a tocar el piano) i posteriorment va col·laborar en varis dels seus discos. Els seus dos germans també són músics (alumnes de Tony): Louis és contrabajista i Philippe, guitarrista.

La manera de tocar de M. Petrucciani es caracteritzava pel ritme, el so que imprimeix al piano, i una excepcional independència polirrítmica de les mans dreta i esquerra. També compositor, tenia preferència per la música brasilera, sempre present en els seus discos.

Reposa en el cementiri del Père Lachaise (a París) al costat de la tomba de Chopin. Des de juliol del 2003, existeix a París una plaça Michel-Petrucciani.
